A hand watch has long before stopped to be a simple tool that allows you to know the time day in and day out. A watch, like a pair of shoes, a handbag, a pair of sun glasses, jewelry or any other accessory that you can think of is a direct representation of yourself, of your fashion sense and of course, of your wealth. Authentic designer watches have an extremely long history, some famous models being patented for the first time one hundred years ago or more. Thus their price went up considerably, directly proportional to the fame of the designer of the watch. Top designers now sell these superb, long time tested, fashionable watches with tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars making them out of reach for the majority of us.
However, there is an alternative to this expensive solution of buying a designer watch directly from the authorized dealers.
The problem with authorized dealers is that they cannot sell their watches anyway else rather than directly from their stores. Thus they cannot trade them on the Internet and they cannot stray away too far from the designer prices (which are usually VERY pocket-burning).
One of the best ways to avoid these restrictions that make prices stay up, is buying from resellers. Resellers have no restrictions on buying and selling watches over the Internet and can do it at an extremely reduced cost. Of course, the downside is that you will not get the factory warranty, which oftentimes stretches for a long period, whereas reseller warranties are usually around 6 months to 1 year. This depends if the watch is new or has been used and if so, for how long it has been used.
Take note that these are NOT fake watches.
Fake watches, or replica watches as they are called by some, are very easily spotted by a trained eye and resellers cannot risk selling these if they want to stay in business. So it's safe to say that there is no real risk in buying a used watch and the only downside will be the shorter warranty and maybe the lack of the original box and papers of the watch.

Tritium paint has been used on the hands and numerals of watches since the 1930's. At first this technology was Top Secret and restricted to use on military watches.
Tritium paint on watches is a mixture of tritium and phospor. Tritium is naturally radio-active and needs no external source of light or charge to work. Tritium does not glow. As it decays, tritium emits beta radiation, which are a group of excited electrons that in turn excite the electron in the phosphor atoms making them emit photons, or light.
As they return to their ground (non-excited) state, the phosphor glows. Phosphor can also be excited by UV light from the sun or other light sources. Thus, the tritium paint relies on tritium radioactivity to make the phosphor glow in the dark, not any charge from external light source.
